Early in my career, I was that cold caller making those calls, trying to close high-ticket deals.
I know. It’s a grind. 😅 But here’s what turned things around, and got me consistent meetings every week.
I broke down my calls into phases, and applied what I call… the “5-1-5 Principle”:
1️⃣ First 5 Seconds: Capture their attention. Make them want to hear more.
2️⃣ Next 1 Minute: Build desire and position yourself as the authority they need.
3️⃣ Next 5 Minutes: Frame it as an opportunity they can’t afford to miss.
Once you dissect your call like this, you can pinpoint what needs fine-tuning.
Identify your benchmarks, figure out where you are losing your prospects the most, and identify actionable steps to improve and tweak these phases.
Over time, you’ll see your cold calls improve drastically.
🌟 Bonus Tip: Make It All About Them
Before hitting that dial button, study the prospect you’re calling.
Find that ONE thing that will grab their attention and give them value, so they want to stay on the call.
Applying this shifted my focus to be solely on serving my prospect’s needs,
And over time, it contributed to increasing my appointment rates by ~200%.
Hope this helps! Would love to hear about any cool cold call strategies that you all have learnt and tested so far –
